Name In Native Language: 下川林
Also Known As:
Shimokawa (下川)
Shimokawa Bokuko (下川僕子)
Chinese. She majored in oil painting for her undergraduate degree, but later chose to study in Japan, shifting her focus from fine art to manga creation. Now, she publishes her work in manga magazines and lives there as a professional manga artist. She says she “doesn't really like being in the business”, preferring to draw peacefully within the editorial and publishing system; she also says “drawing manga is really tiring”, but it's precisely because of the pain that she feels it's worthwhile.
Her works often carry a touch of the eerie. “It's not that I intentionally wanted to draw horror comics, it's just that as I was drawing, everyone felt a bit scared.”. From China to Japan, from painting abstract oil paintings to storyboards, she has always been searching for a way to truely “know what she is drawing”. (Source)
