“Carlo Zen” is the alias of a Japanese novelist and game scenario writer. Almost nothing is known about his real identity. His pseudonym is taken from the Venetian admiral.

Zen began releasing Youjo Senki on the web novel site Arcardia in March 2012. In June 2013, Enterbrain began publishing it as a light novel series. Seeing great success, manga and anime adaptations followed.

He also participated in scenario writing for the game adaptation of Chaos Dragon: Chaos War and the original story creator of Juuma no Reza Nation.

He loves the humanities and social sciences, especially when associated with international relations and history. He's a huge fan of simulation and strategy games, especially Paradox Interactive's.

Zen is also a Toshiya Wakabayashi fan.
